I-Spy Fabric Swap 3.0

I-Spy Fabric Swap 3.0

Join the I-Spy Fabric Swap flickr group and see what other’s are making with their squares!

In order to make friends and share creative blog love,
I will post the list of swap participants and their blog links (if provided)

Ground Rules:

  • 1. Sign-up for the swap via the I-Spy Fabric Swap Form .. This swap is all filled up!!
  • 2. Mail 200 squares to me by January 31st. Get 200 squares back, in the mail by February 20th.
  •
    Rules & Regulations:

  • 1. The first 40 people to sign-up are in.
  • 2. Purchase 10 different I-Spy fabrics (100% cotton, “fussy cut”, juvenile & novelty prints).
  • 3. Pre-wash fabric
  • 4. Cut 20 (twenty) 4 inch squares out of each of the 10 different fabrics for a total of 200 squares.
  • 5. Group your squares into “packs” of 10 – one of each fabric.
  • 6. Include return postage – either prepaid envelope or $4 (for international postage, lets talk first)
  • 7. Mail squares to me by January 31st. Live outside the U.S.? Please mail your fabrics a little earlier.
  • 8. You will receive 200 different 4 inch novelty squares back. Packages will be sent by February 20th.
  •
    Shipping Address:

  • Katie Kinsella, 140 Hoyt St, Apt 4H, Stamford, CT 06905
  •
    Extras:

    • Fussy Cutting – When cutting the squares, it is important to make sure you can see the objects clearly in each square (3.5 inch finished size). Try centering each design in its square. The images don’t necessarily have to be perfectly lined up or exactly right side up, as long as you can see them. There could be more than 1 item in the square – for instance I have a cute fabric with fish, but I will make sure at least one fish is fully viewable within the square.
    • Try hard to search for unusual prints. Fabric not available at chain stores will help avoid duplicates. And check out the novelty fabric sections for fabric with objects on it, not just prints – if you love it, other swappers will love it too!
    • Please stay away from “licensed” or “team” prints: No Disney, Sponge Bob, John Deere, Green Bay Packers, etc.
What is an I-Spy quilt? Just like the I-Spy books except made with fabric! The quilt is made up of fussy-cut fabrics, usually children’s prints or other types of novelty fabrics with motifs that depict objects the child can “spy” when looking at the quilt. Take turns spotting something in the quilt, maybe “I spy, with my little eye, a monkey” And then the first person to point out the monkey on the quilt goes next. Lots of fun to be had!

      Thanks Kim

    5. Manda says:

I hate prewashed fabric, so I’ll have to think about it. I’m getting the I-Spy itch. Good luck!

    6. Beth says:

I have a ton of i spy fabric that I just went through my stash and cut, and some prints for yardage.. so I do not have 10 of each print but can I still join? This will be a great swap!

    7. Hannah says:

I would love to try this. I haven’t quilted since my daughter was born and I think this is the perfect project to get back into it.

    8. Jorie says:

I would LOVE LOVE to sign up for this! I have TONS of I-spy FQs waiting to be cut up for a quilt for my son, and was planning on cutting some up to have a giveaway, what a great way to motivate me to cut into them, get some new ones for my sons quilt (and actually start it!), and bundle up some extras of mine for a giveaway! Please let me know if there is still room!

    9. nrnoodle says:

I am totally in. I have done a swap like this once before and loved it.

i hope there is still room!

    14. Colleen says:

Hurray! I just signed up, and I am so excited!

    15. Colleen says:

So I just wanted to confirm–we’re doing 4 inch squares, not 5 inch? Seems like 5 is usually the standard? Thanks!

    16. Jenny says:

This sounds awesome, I’ve never done anything like this but I can’t wait to make an I-Spy quilt, now I just need to buy some fabrics, can’t wait to get them in the mail!

    17. Manda says:

OKay, so I signed up. I don’t want to be fussy, but for the option “other” I requested to receive no holiday themed fabric. Is this acceptable? If it’s too difficult to manage, I understand.

    18. wendy says:

I followed the link and signed up. Does that mean I’m automatically in? I don’t want to mail every thing out only to find out I was the 41st person!

    19. Linnea says:

My package is in the mail. Can’t wait to see what comes back!

    20. Rachel says:

Mine was sent early this week! I am excited to see all of the squares that come back too!

    21. Catherine says:

I’m in! I did a google search and found your swap and just in time too! Can’t wait!!

    22. Elisa says:

This sounds like so much fun! And a perfect Birthday present for my oldest! Can’t wait!!

    23. Nikki McDonald says:

I signed up and bought the fabric. I almost didn’t sign up for this because of the pre-washing requirement. So much trouble. I’ve participated in one other round before, but I think this will be my last one if pre-washing continues to be required. It’s one of those things I just don’t do unless fabrics are batiks.

    24. Manda says:

Mine are going out today. I agree the pre-washing was a bit tedious. I miscut one fabric (my fave of course) and had to prewash an extra fabric to cut and send.

    25. Karen says:

I’m in and just need the snow to go away so that I can get shopping.

    26. Corinne says:

I just found and signed up for this swap. I can get them ready and mailed out tomorrow, the 31st (today is Sunday), and mail them Priority. Will that work out alright? Or shall I wait for another swap?

    27. nrnoodle says:

      Hi Katie,
Mine are going in the mail tomorrow morning. Due to the weather system I have not been able to get out today. I will mail it out first class. So sorry for the delay.

    28. Jane Dringoli says:

      Hi,
I have my package ready to put in the mail tomorrow morning first thing! Hope I am not too late? I am just in Hamden,CT so you should receive my package on Tues.
      Thanks,
      Jane

    29. Rachel says:

Hi Kate! Just curious if you plan on posting any of the fabric packs! Perhaps I’m not looking in the right place? I can’t wait to see the swap selection! :)

      Thanks again for hosting!

    30. Jenny says:

I’m needing more yellow or orange fabric squares for my I-Spy quilt. Does anyone have some they’d be willing to sell or know of anywhere that I can buy them online? Thanks!
