Candle Mat Swap

Just before the holidays, I participated in a Candle Mat Swap hosted by The Quilting Gallery. There were 150 participants covering 20 different countries! We all used the Candlelight pattern, by Sandi Anderson, but everyone requested different colors and themes. It was another secret swap, so who you send to is not who you receive from, which I find to be the most fun.

My partner asked for rich fall colors. I also sent an orange flower candle with holder.

I asked for winter colors. She also made cute coasters from leftover fabric and sent a Moroccan vanilla candle.

The pattern was quick and easy to follow, but also fun to see how everyone interpreted it, used colors differently, and added their own quilting and embellishment techniques.

Wrapped in Hope

Devon's Football Quilt Sometimes the smile of a child is the greatest gift. The WRAPPED IN HOPE program provides birthday quilts for children of prisoners. The program is run by Margaret’s Hope Chest, a quilting non-profit providing hope and comfort to those in need through the gift of a beautifully crafted quilt.

I signed up to sponsor Devon who was turning 10 on November 21st. He loves green, football and video games. My love for football turned me in that direction, so I made a football field quilt. I used strips of different green fabrics – a mix of cotton, flannel and soft comfy – to create the field. Then added football themed fabric squares in the middle – comparable to a team’s logo in the middle of a field. An applique of numbers and end zone letters, plus a fun border with goals finished off the creation. After a nice wash and iron, I packaged it up and sent it off to Devon. A few days later, I got this note:

“Hi, this is Devons mother, and i just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!! Devon loves his quilt and ran around the house with a smile across his face that i haven’t seen for years! He couldn’t stop talking about it and saying how cool it is and that he loves it so much! The fact that you included a card that said it was from his dad who is in prison, was priceless. Words cannot express how happy and blessed we feel from your kindness!!! Thank you sooooooo very much! The Quilt is amazing! May GOD bless you always as you’ve blessed us! Happy Holidays dear friends! :)”

Giving to others really brings so much to the giver – doesn’t it?

Let’s Swap!

How about another fabric swap! The last two I-Spy Swaps were pretty successful, and covered several countries and plenty of US states! And swappers have been asking for another round, so I’m hoping for a good #3 :)

Now before I get all crazy with the guidelines, dates, and sign-ups, let me ask you what you want.

1. Shall we do another I-Spy fabric swap with child-oriented fabrics, or switch things up for a designer fabric square swap, like a charm pack?

2. Shall we do this before or after the holidays?

If interested, please leave a comment with answers so I can get a majority vote. Thanks!
